Applying concessions and sibling discounts
Define concession types once, then assign them to individual students or import them in bulk, including discounts for siblings.
A concession reduces what a student pays on every challan, either by a fixed amount or a percentage. Use concessions for staff children, merit awards, hardship cases and sibling discounts, so the reduction is recorded and repeated each month instead of agreed verbally.
Before you start
- Student concessions must be switched on for your campus. If Student Concessions does not appear under Fee, ask your administrator to enable it in campus settings.
- Concession types (policies) should be defined first. These are managed under Configurations > Concession Types, usually by an administrator.
- If you do not see these options, they may not be included in your plan or your role may not have permission; ask your administrator.
Steps
Define a concession type
- Go to Configurations > Concession Types and click Add New Concession.
- Enter a Concession Name, for example "Sibling discount" or "Staff child".
- Choose the Mode (Fixed or Percentage), the Amount, and which Fee Head it applies to, or All Fee Heads.
- Set enforcement. Strict means campuses cannot change the value; Flexible lets each campus adjust it per student.
Assign a concession to a student
- Go to Fee > Student Concessions and open the Assign Concession tab.
- Search for the student and pick them under Select Student.
- Under Select Policy, choose the concession type.
- For a flexible policy, choose Select Mode (Fixed Amount or a percentage of fee) and enter the Concession value.
- Save. The concession appears in the Concessions List tab.
Handling sibling discounts
There is no automatic rule that detects siblings and applies a discount. The usual approach is to create a concession type such as "Sibling discount" and assign it to each child who qualifies, for example the second and third child in a family. Students linked to the same family appear together in family records, which makes it easy to check who should receive it.
Assign many at once
- Open the Import Concessions tab.
- Use Download Sample File, fill in one row per student, then choose the file under Select Excel File and upload.
Good to know
- Concessions apply to challans created after you assign them. Challans already created are not recalculated. To adjust one existing challan, you can add a concession from the student's record on the Collect Fee screen.
- Strict concessions cannot be edited per student; change the type itself instead.
- For a one-off discount on a single month's batch, use Apply one time Concession? when creating monthly challans instead of a permanent concession.
- The Fee Concession Report in fee reports shows what was granted, so you can review concessions each term.
Common questions
Can a concession apply to tuition only and not transport?
Yes. Choose a specific fee head when you define the concession type instead of All Fee Heads.
